Advanced Education Minister Myles McDougall announced nearly 8,000 new post-secondary spaces in the programs students want and employers need, the largest targeted investment in post-secondary expansion in Alberta’s history. That means close to 1,000 more nursing spaces, 750 more in engineering, 1,000 more teachers in training, and hundreds more paramedics ready to serve Albertans. Transportation Minister Devin Dreeshen unveiled Alberta’s new “Welcome to Alberta” border signs, replacing all 22 provincial border signs for the first time in more than 40 years. The new design features the provincial coat of arms and a wild rose, and every sign is made by Albertans with Alberta steel and aluminum. Read more.
Assisted Living and Social Services Minister Nathan Neudorf announced a partnership with Build Canada Homes that will deliver at least 1,460 new affordable homes across Alberta this year alone, spread across 21 projects. Education Minister Demetrios Nicolaides announced our government is expanding the math and reading screeners program to grades 4 and 5, giving teachers an earlier read on which students need extra help before small gaps grow into bigger ones. The approach is already working, with up to 41 per cent of students flagged for support in kindergarten to Grade 3 no longer needing it when screened again a year later. Starting this year, schools will also be required to share screening results directly with parents, so families have a clear picture of how their child is doing. Read more.

Jobs, Economy, Trade and Immigration Minister Joseph Schow announced that Lufthansa Technik Canada and Flair Airlines have signed a 15-year agreement for engine maintenance and repair in Alberta, alongside a new Lufthansa Technik facility at Calgary airport that will serve as its Canadian headquarters and employ roughly 160 people. It is a signal to the rest of the aviation industry about where the work is going, and more proof that our low tax, pro-growth agenda is landing skilled jobs here. Read more.
Transportation Minister Devin Dreeshen delivered a win for Alberta drivers with the 120 km/h pilot on Highway 2, where crashes dropped and average speeds held steady. The success has already doubled the pilot from 22 to 44 kilometres, and our government is looking at bringing 120 km/h to rural divided highways right across the province. Read more.
