Premier Smith is calling on the federal government to make its firearms amnesty permanent and completely abandon its flawed confiscation scheme. Premier Smith was in Quebec last week to pitch a new economic alliance aimed at strengthening supply chains and boosting growth across both provinces. During her visit, she highlighted the opportunity to merge economic strengths, offering Alberta’s expertise to help Quebec develop its own natural gas reserves. The Premier emphasized that provinces must respect each other’s autonomy and support each other’s industries to attract mutual investment and build a stronger national economy. Read more.
Service Alberta Minister Dale Nally announced all-in-one driver’s licences and ID cards starting July 2. The updated cards will replace paper health documents by adding the health-care number to the back. They will also feature a citizenship marker on the front to simplify applications for provincial programs like student aid and income support. These new IDs provide greater convenience for residents while introducing enhanced security features to combat health-care fraud. Read more.
Education Minister Demetrios Nicolaides shared great news this week that Alberta students are among the top performers in the country in math, reading and science. The latest Pan-Canadian Assessment Program results show Grade 8 students in the province ranked first nationally in science, second in reading and third in mathematics. All three scores placed well above the national average. Read more.

Jobs and Economy Minister Joseph Schow was joined by Chestermere-Strathmore MLA Chantelle de Jonge for the grand opening of a new wallboard manufacturing plant in Wheatland County. The $210-million facility will serve as a modern hub for the construction industry, creating nearly 100 full-time jobs and strengthening the regional supply of essential building materials. This new plant is further proof of how we are attracting job-creating investments to Alberta. Read more.

Premier Smith and Transportation and Economic Corridors Minister Devin Dreeshen announced our government’s 30-year passenger rail master plan. The project aims to link Edmonton and Calgary with a high-speed train while connecting major airports and local transit systems across the province. Work is now underway to engage private developers and investors to help finance and build the new rail network. Read more.
